 Bishop Pat Dunn, DD

Bishop Pat is an Aucklander, the eldest of seven children of the late Dr Pat & Mrs June Dunn. He attended Sacred Heart College, and studied for the priesthood at the National Seminary, then located at Mosgiel.

Ordained a priest for the Diocese of Auckland in 1976, he served at the Te Unga Waka marae in Epsom, and then in a variety of parishes. For two years he ran a Pre-Seminary House in Takapuna for men who felt called to serve as priests. In 1990 he graduated with an M.Theol degree from the Melbourne College of Divinity, and his book “Priesthood” was published by Alba House in New York.

He was ordained a bishop in 1994 and on Christmas Eve of that year was appointed Bishop of Auckland. One of his greatest concerns is the fact that 12 of his best parish priests are now aged over 75. On a brighter note, he has seven wonderful seminarians now in training, but says he would feel happier if he could double that number for next year. For relaxation he still enjoys running, and can be spotted at times by the sharp-eyed pounding the streets of Ponsonby.
