EUCHARISTIC CONVENTION 2010 - PARKING

Parking for the Eucharistic Convention is a challenge. Human nature being what it is we all want to be able to park our car in the premium spot whereby making our transit from the car to the venue as painless as possible. At Westlake Boys High School there is some parking in the school grounds but it is only the early birds who will get one.

That said there is plenty of room to park in streets close to the school; hence the map provided. I took a drive around the venue today and noted that in Nile Rd and Belmont Tce there were plenty of available parking spaces on offer. For the more fleet of foot Quebec Rd also had plenty of room. It seemed to me that rather than trying to find that parking spot in the school grounds it could be more sensible for one of the occupants of your car to drop you at the venue door, go and park the car in one of those side streets then make their way to the auditorium. It would be as well to have an umbrella on hand in case of inclement weather but apart from that this option is workable; in my opinion.

Should the need arise volunteers from Westlake Girls High School will make parking available at the Girls High School and shuttle occupants up the hill. This is a last resort however and will only be put in place if really necessary.

My nephews Nikolas and Daniel Gambitsts will be monitoring parking at the main entrance area again this year and it is their job to make sure that the Bishop, working guests and event volunteers have access to their assigned parking spaces as and when necessary. Nikolas and Daniel did a great job last year and were so impressed with the task at hand they can’t wait to get involved again this year. Can I ask you to follow their instructions if you happen to be in their area of control as this will make the process easy for all.

Many thanks in anticipation of your cooperation in regard to matters parking.                John Porteous
