EUCHARISTIC CONVENTION
Msgr Paul Cronin - Spiritual Director
A Short Interview with Monsignor Paul Cronin - from Bill Moore
We have Mass, so why do we need the Eucharistic Convention?
Sunday after Sunday, the same preacher, the same set of circumstances… I won’t say it becomes boring, but we need a bit more emphasis on the diocese rather than individual parishes; to give them a chance to come together and witness to their faith to each other. It makes it worthwhile.
To be in a congregation of 2,000-3,000, like at the Eucharistic Convention, you suddenly realise the extent of the Church, and the faith that’s there. If it’s just a small parish with a few going to Mass, as is happening nowadays, they feel as though they are isolated. At this Convention, we are not. We are a Church on the move. Upward and onwards.
What are the fruits of the Convention?
The two men on the way to Emmaus were overcome with all the problems of our Lord’s death. They had thought, well, it was going to be something marvelous, but it all seemed to end. And so He walked with them. And their hearts suddenly took fire, because they had that personal relationship with Him. And that’s what happens here in the lives of many.
They have the opportunity to go to Confession that’s not hasty, but one where they can really talk. It’s not Rite Two, which is say your bit and get out. It’s a matter of having that time to be assisted perhaps to see the plan of God in their lives, with all its faults and failings and difficulties.
The biggest fruit I see from the Eucharistic Convention is people going away filled with hope and joy.
